Virology Institute Appointed as Regional Coordinator for National One Health Program

On November 15, 2025, the Institute of Advanced Virology (IAV) in the capital was named as the regional coordinator of the National One Health Programme for Prevention and Control of Zoonoses (NOHPPCZ) under the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
In this new role, the institute will receive central funding of ₹5 crore in the first phase to fulfill its tasks. The IAV's association with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) will strengthen the One Health surveillance network in the southern part of the country, according to IAV Director E. Sreekumar.
The One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health, along with IAV's expertise in molecular diagnostics, will be an added advantage for disease surveillance and early diagnosis. As the regional coordinator, IAV will provide diagnostic support for the sentinel labs, facilitate external quality assessment, and organize training programs to support the One Health initiative in the region.
