In a landmark medical event, doctors at BLDE Association B.M. Patil Super-speciality Hospital in Vijayapura have successfully conducted their inaugural kidney transplantation surgery. This pioneering operation brings advanced medical care to the region.
The vital organs were sourced from a 30-year-old individual who was declared brain-dead following a severe accident on February 9. Following compassionate counseling, the donor's family generously agreed to donate both kidneys and eyes, offering a new lease on life for others.
One kidney was successfully transplanted into a patient under the State government's Jeevan Sarthakate Scheme. The other kidney was swiftly transported to Kalaburagi under a zero-traffic protocol to ensure its viability. Additionally, two corneas were retrieved for individuals suffering from vision impairment.
Medical Director Vijayakumar Kalyanapugol emphasized the critical shortage of organs, with 5,905 patients currently awaiting transplants, including 579 for kidneys. He urged the public to consider organ donation to help those in need.
Principal Tejashwini Vallabh lauded the donor's family for their extraordinary generosity, stating they have achieved immortality by enabling four individuals to lead better lives and setting an inspiring example for society.
