The American Heart Association is set to host the Vermont Heart Walk on June 20 in Burlington. The event will take place at Delta Dental Diamond at Centennial Field, commencing with a program at 8:30 a.m., followed by a walk at 9:30 a.m. The focus will be on CPR readiness and sharing compelling survivor stories.
Featured speakers include Dan Werme, the Vermont Heart Walk chair and regional president of NBT Bank, alongside cardiac arrest survivor Chloe Labelle and the individual who performed CPR on her, Chelsea Manor. NBT Bank is the local sponsor for this significant community initiative.
With over 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occurring annually and a survival rate below 10%, the Heart Walk underscores the critical importance of bystander CPR. Immediate intervention can double or triple a person's chance of survival.
The Heart Walk is the association's largest community outreach program, dedicated to improving access to CPR training, equipping bystanders with vital skills, generating funds for research, and advancing health equity nationwide.
