E. coli Alert: 5 Vancouver Beaches Close to Swimmers
19 Jun
Summary
- Five Vancouver beaches are now closed due to high E. coli levels.
- Sunset Beach initially closed June 12, with four more added recently.
- E. coli contamination can cause vomiting, infections, and skin irritation.

Several Vancouver beaches are now off-limits for swimming due to elevated E. coli bacteria detected in recent water samples. As of Wednesday, Kits Point Beach, Third Beach, and English Bay Beach were added to the closure list, following an earlier restriction for Sunset Beach on June 12. Trout Lake in East Vancouver was also placed under swimming restrictions on Tuesday.
Vancouver Coastal Health confirmed E. coli levels at Third Beach and English Bay significantly surpassed safety limits. Locarno Beach is currently under investigation for higher-than-expected E. coli but remains open for swimming. Ingesting water with high E. coli can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and infections, while skin contact can cause irritation.
