29 Sep
Summary
- Court ordered a four-week decision on a nursing officer's specialized posting.
- The officer has a diploma in neurological and neurosurgical nursing.
- The court emphasized utilizing his specialized skills for patient benefit.
The Uttarakhand High Court has mandated that the Director General of Medical Health and Family Welfare must reach a decision within four weeks concerning a nursing officer's request for a specialized posting. Arjun Singh, who holds a diploma in neurological and neurosurgical nursing, has been serving at a community health centre in Pauri-Garhwal since February 13, 2024. His petition highlights that his specialized training is not being optimally used in his current role.
Singh's legal representative argued before the court that his client's diploma restricts him from practicing in obstetrics and gynaecology, and thus he should be assigned to a position where his neurological and neurosurgical expertise can be best applied. The court acknowledged Singh's prior representation to the DG health, along with recommendations from medical superintendents and the chief medical officer. Justice Pankaj Purohit instructed the DG health to issue a reasoned order, giving due consideration to Singh's qualifications.
