Nationwide Alert: Uninspected Beef and Pork on Shelves
26 Mar
Summary
- USDA warns consumers about uninspected beef and pork.
- Products from Blackwing Meats may bear false inspection marks.
- Consumers urged to discard or return affected meat products.

A nationwide public health alert has been issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) concerning raw organic beef and pork products. These items were manufactured by Blackwing Meats and Blackwing Organic Meats from April 2024 up to March 2026. The FSIS is concerned about a potential consumer health and safety risk due to the possibility of false or absent USDA inspection marks on these products.
The affected items include various vacuum-packed raw meat cuts, such as organic New York strip steaks, ground beef, stew meat, and pork chops, all bearing the Blackwing labels. Some products were found with an unauthorized establishment number "EST. 1996," while others were distributed without any inspection marking. This situation was identified during an ongoing FSIS investigation.
As meat without federal inspection cannot have its safety verified, the FSIS warns of potential contaminants and undeclared allergens. Although no illnesses have been reported, consumers are urged to not consume these products. They should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase to prevent accidental consumption. The FSIS continues to investigate how these uninspected products entered the market.
