A comprehensive statewide school-based Tetanus-Diphtheria (TD) vaccination campaign is underway in Uttar Pradesh from April 20 to April 30. This initiative, announced by the health department, targets millions of children to enhance their immunity.
State immunisation officer Dr. Ajay Gupta stated that eligible schoolchildren will receive the DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus) booster dose. Specifically, students in Class 1 will get the DPT-2 booster, while those in Classes 4, 5, 10, and 11 will receive TD-10 and TD-16 vaccines respectively. The campaign aims to cover 23,62,548 children for DPT and approximately 41,60,830 children for TD vaccines across all government and aided schools.
National Health Mission general manager Dr. Manoj Shukla assured that children who missed previous TD vaccinations can still receive the TD-10 or TD-16 doses. While generally safe, mild fever might occur, with necessary medication provided by ANMs. All vaccinated children will be observed for 30 minutes post-vaccination.
