80% of UP Toothaches Tied to Preventable Habits
10 Feb
Summary
- Over half of UP's children and adults suffer from dental caries.
- Most dental issues, around 80%, stem from preventable habits.
- Many seek dental care only when pain becomes severe.

In Uttar Pradesh, over 50% of children and adults are affected by dental caries, a condition largely linked to preventable habits. Experts note that 80% of these dental problems stem from lifestyle choices, including frequent consumption of sugary items and inadequate oral hygiene.
Among children aged 5-17, toothaches are commonly caused by excessive toffees, chocolates, sugary drinks, and infrequent brushing. Dentists report a concerning trend where over 56% of children are only brought in for treatment when pain becomes severe.
For women aged 18-55, issues arise from sweet tea consumption, skipping nighttime brushing, and myths surrounding dental care during pregnancy. Men in the same age group often suffer from cavities and gum disease due to tobacco use, smoking, and irregular brushing.
