Unsafe Condoms Sold Online Pose Health Risks
21 Aug
Summary
- Tens of thousands of potentially unsafe condoms were flagged by French agencies.
- Two condom products recalled after tests showed risks of bursting.
- 30 condom lines on online marketplaces lacked EU conformity seals.

French health and anti-fraud agencies issued a public warning on Friday concerning a significant quantity of condoms sold through various channels. Investigations identified approximately 260,000 condoms, sold in pharmacies and shops, that were recalled due to safety concerns.
Laboratory tests revealed that two specific condom products posed risks, including potential bursting and perforations. Consumers who have used these specific condoms have been advised to undergo screening for sexually transmitted diseases and to take a pregnancy test if they experience a missed period.
Further scrutiny of online marketplaces uncovered 30 condom lines that lacked the required EU conformity seal or French labeling. Of these, over 40,000 condoms, packaged in around 1,000 boxes, had already been sold before platforms agreed to remove the listings. Brands implicated include those by Japanese company Okamoto Industries, as well as My Lubie and Friday Bae by Passage du Desir.
