6 Mar
Summary
- A mother received a life-saving liver transplant from her daughter's coworker.
- The donor, a doctor with four children, stepped up despite a busy schedule.
- More than 100,000 people nationwide are currently on the transplant waiting list.

A remarkable act of generosity has given a New Kensington woman a new lease on life. Jaylynne Kemerly, who has been managing a liver disease since 2007, received a life-saving liver transplant on August 11 of last year. The donor was Dr. Brianna Bayer, a coworker of Kemerly's daughter.
Despite Kemerly's family members not being a match, Dr. Bayer, a physician and mother of four, stepped forward. She explained her motivation stemmed from witnessing Kemerly's declining health through her daughter's eyes. Bayer offered to donate two-thirds of her liver, a procedure that Kemerly underwent at Allegheny General Hospital.
