The UK's medicines watchdog has identified Northamptonshire as the site of two of the largest law enforcement operations targeting illicit weight-loss drugs. In October 2025, the MHRA, aided by Northamptonshire Police, raided a warehouse in Northampton. This operation yielded 2,000 pre-filled injectable pens and £20,000 in cash, believed to be the first discovered large-scale illegal manufacturing facility for such substances.
More recently, a second raid at a country estate in Northamptonshire led to the seizure of 12,000 illicit jabs. Two 29-year-old men were arrested in connection with this discovery. The head of the MHRA's criminal enforcement unit highlighted the severe dangers, describing the use of these unregulated products as "just you and a syringe full of risk."
