UK Approves Daily J&J Drug for Skin Condition
27 Oct
Summary
- Johnson & Johnson's daily pill for plaque psoriasis approved.
- Drug Icotyde is for adults and teenagers aged 12 and older.
- Approval based on four trials showing better results than placebo.

In the United Kingdom, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has granted approval for Johnson & Johnson's daily oral medication, Icotyde. This drug is indicated for individuals aged 12 and above, weighing at least 40 kg, who have moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. The regulatory decision was underpinned by the positive outcomes from four extensive late-stage clinical trials involving a substantial number of patients, including adolescents.
The trials demonstrated that patients administered Icotyde experienced superior results after 16 weeks when contrasted with those receiving a placebo. Earlier this year, the drug received its first approval in the United States for the same condition. Johnson & Johnson, in collaboration with Protagonist Therapeutics, is also exploring Icotyde's efficacy for other conditions such as ulcerative colitis, psoriatic arthritis, and Crohn's disease, anticipating significant peak sales.
