The Church of South India (CSI) Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital in Udupi marked its 103rd anniversary on June 15 by launching three vital new facilities. These enhancements include a state-of-the-art heat pump system, an expanded 40 kW solar power system, and a robust fire safety system.
Bishop Hemachandra Kumar inaugurated the new systems, commending the hospital's commitment to environmental stewardship under the INSPIRE project. Hospital director Sushil Jathanna highlighted the importance of the fire safety upgrades due to the building's age. The new solar panels are projected to reduce the monthly electricity bill by approximately ₹1.2 lakh, increasing solar energy's contribution to the hospital's power needs from 43% to 58%.
The expanded 40 kW solar power facility is situated on the rooftops of the microbiology department and the hospital auditorium. The heat pump system ensures a continuous supply of hot water for patient care, offering energy efficiency and cost savings with minimal carbon emissions. The comprehensive fire safety system features a fire reel, a fire hydrant system, and a fire sprinkler system, designed to ensure the safety of all individuals on the premises.
