Sasha Sabrina Azeez, from Toronto, Canada, was overjoyed to discover she was pregnant with twins in April 2024. Early ultrasounds revealed not only the twins but also a nearly 9-centimeter cyst on her ovary. By 20 weeks pregnant, the cyst had grown to 19 centimeters, prompting surgeons to remove it, along with Azeez's right ovary and fallopian tube.
A pathology report identified the mass as an immature teratoma, which had become cancerous, presenting a dire threat to Azeez's life. Her oncologist stressed the urgency of treatment, leading to the delivery of the twins via open abdominal surgery at 29 weeks on October 4, 2024. They each weighed 2 pounds, 5 ounces and were taken to the NICU.
Following the delivery, Azeez underwent an omentectomy to remove any visible signs of cancer. She then began chemotherapy and infusions, completing her final treatment on December 30, 2024. Azeez is now cancer-free, with ongoing monitoring, and her twins, nicknamed 'miracles,' spent 52 days in the NICU before returning home. She now shares her journey on social media, emphasizing gratitude and living life fully.
