4 Aug
Summary
- Preterm twins were born in a cab en route to the hospital.
- Medical teams provided swift intervention for mother and newborns.
- Both infants and mother recovered and were discharged successfully.

Preeti Kumari, 32 weeks pregnant with twins, experienced a sudden preterm labor on July 19, 2026, while visiting relatives near Salt Lake. Her husband rushed her to a New Town hospital via app cab. En route, at approximately 6:40 am, the first twin, a baby girl, was born inside the moving vehicle.
The couple directed the driver to the nearest medical facility, Manipal Hospital Broadway. Medical staff provided initial neonatal support in the cab and stabilized Preeti. Recognizing the need for advanced Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) facilities, the doctors arranged an immediate transfer to Manipal Hospital's Salt Lake unit.
Upon arrival at the Salt Lake facility, Preeti delivered the second twin, a baby boy, at approximately 6:50 am under the care of the obstetric team. The newborn girl was stable, but the boy required resuscitation. Both infants were admitted to the NICU for intensive monitoring and life support.
Thanks to the swift intervention of the emergency, pediatric, and obstetric teams, both mother and babies were kept safe. Preeti was discharged after five days. Her daughter spent seven days in the NICU, and her son, after nine days of care, was reunited with his family. Both babies are reported to be doing well.
