- ICU beds at GBP hospital will increase from 156 to 326.
- A medical university is being considered to regulate medical institutions.

The government of Tripura is actively working to bolster its healthcare infrastructure. A recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with GNRC, a medical institution based in Guwahati, to establish a superspecialty hospital. This facility will be located on vacant land previously belonging to Tripura Jute Mills Ltd.
Further enhancing medical capabilities, the state has also partnered with AIIMS, New Delhi, to improve services at the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GBP Hospital) and Agartala Government Medical College. As a direct result of AIIMS' recommendations, the ICU capacity at GBP Hospital will nearly double, increasing from 156 to 326 beds. Telemedicine services now directly link GBP Hospital with AIIMS, ensuring better patient treatment within the state.
In line with these advancements, a 16-bed dedicated ICU for severe respiratory cases and a well-equipped ICU within the trauma center have recently become operational at GBP Hospital. The state cabinet has also discussed the potential creation of a medical university to oversee and regulate the state's medical colleges and institutions, with the overarching goal of reducing patient referrals by optimizing local medical facilities.
