- Only 28.4% of cases were detected at an early, localized stage.
- A month-long campaign aims to boost awareness, prevention, and detection.
Tripura has launched an intensive, month-long campaign dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness and fostering prevention efforts across the state. This initiative addresses a significant health challenge, as breast cancer represents 14.4% of all cancer cases among women in Tripura.
The campaign is employing a multi-faceted approach, including workshops, consultations with healthcare professionals, and seminars. Social media outreach and engagement with local officials are also key components. Community health officers will conduct village-level outreach during designated health days.
Data indicates that early detection remains a critical issue, with only 28.4% of cases identified at a localized stage, while a concerning 58.2% present with distant metastasis. India recorded an estimated 237,231 new breast cancer cases in 2024.
In addition to awareness, Tripura is enhancing cancer treatment services through District Day Care Cancer Centres. Efforts are underway to strengthen screening for women aged 30 and above, improve recognition of warning signs, and ensure comprehensive patient care from diagnosis through palliative support.
