Summary

- Training addresses road accidents and burn injuries statistics.
- Hands-on sessions enhance preparedness for emergencies.
Fifty-seven doctors from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh recently completed an Immediate Trauma Life Support and Burn Management course at PGIMER. This training, part of a national program by the Union health ministry, focuses on strengthening emergency response to trauma and burn injuries.
The curriculum covered essential topics like initial patient assessment, triage, and disaster preparedness. It specifically addressed traumatic brain injuries, musculoskeletal trauma, and advanced burn management techniques. This initiative is crucial given that road accidents claimed over 1.87 lakh lives in 2025, and nearly one lakh people suffer burn injuries annually, with a significant mortality rate.
Participants engaged in practical sessions, including airway management, hemorrhage control, and intercostal drain insertion. These hands-on exercises are designed to equip doctors with the skills needed to effectively manage critical trauma and burn emergencies, ultimately aiming to reduce preventable deaths and complications.
