A one-and-a-half-year-old boy is recovering after doctors at the Post Graduate Institute of Child Health (PGICH) in Noida successfully removed a metal nut and bolt from his food pipe. The child had accidentally swallowed the objects, presenting a critical situation.
Upon arrival, a team led by ENT surgeon Dr. Abhishek Gupta confirmed the lodged foreign bodies. A procedure called rigid oesophagoscopy was performed, allowing for the direct visualization and removal of the objects through the mouth without any surgical cuts.
Hospital officials highlighted the successful outcome and stressed the dangers of children ingesting small items. They advised parents to secure potential hazards like nuts, bolts, coins, and toy parts, and to seek immediate medical help if such an incident occurs, rather than attempting home removal.
