24 Sep
Summary
- 1,000 dengue breeding checker teams deployed across district.
- Precautionary measures initiated ahead of Northeast Monsoon.
- Focus on preventing dengue outbreak as fever cases rise.

In anticipation of the Northeast Monsoon and a recent increase in dengue cases, the Tirunelveli district administration has deployed 1,000 dengue breeding checker (DBC) teams. These teams, operating from village panchayats to the Tirunelveli Corporation, are tasked with visiting every home to identify and eliminate Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding sites.
The district is taking precautionary measures to prevent a dengue outbreak, although no specific hotspots have been identified. The DBC teams will also collect information on fever cases within families, allowing for timely interventions. Analysis of past data indicates a seasonal rise in fever and dengue cases during October and November.
Special medical camps will be organized in areas reporting a higher incidence of fever. The District Collector has urged the public to maintain cleanliness and prevent water stagnation around their homes. Furthermore, local bodies have been instructed to ensure drinking water is properly chlorinated to prevent water-borne diseases like typhoid and jaundice.
