Summary
- 2,384 mental illness patients treated at Thane Regional Psychiatric Hospital last year.
- 2,257 patients reunited with families after successful counseling.
- Social stigma and misconceptions challenge patient reintegration efforts.

The Thane Regional Psychiatric Hospital has made significant strides in mental health care over the past year, treating 2,384 patients. A remarkable 2,257 individuals were successfully reunited with their families, a process often challenging due to initial reluctance from relatives.
Hospital officials emphasized that social stigma and widespread misconceptions about mental illness continue to pose major obstacles to patient reintegration. They noted that while a home environment is ideal, fear and social pressure often prevent families from readily accepting patients back.
In cases where patients were abandoned or had lost contact, the hospital took proactive steps. They located native villages and families for 44 individuals and personally escorted 34 long-term inmates to ensure their safe return home.
For those without a support system, the hospital arranged admissions to rehabilitation centers. These centers offer vocational training and skill development, aiming to foster self-reliance and independence among patients.
