Telangana Launches Mass Health Screenings for SHG Women
4 Mar
Summary
- Women's health initiative begins March 8 with 30 medical tests.
- Program unfolds in four phases until June 12.
- Urban health centers to be upgraded into polyclinics.

The Telangana health department is set to launch a significant initiative to prepare comprehensive health profiles for women belonging to self-help groups across the state. This large-scale screening will commence on March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day, with each woman undergoing 30 distinct medical tests facilitated by Telangana Diagnostics. This decision emerged from a review meeting focused on the 99-day 'Praja Palana - Pragati Pranalika' Plan, with implementation scheduled from March 6 to June 12.
The action plan is structured into four phases. The first phase, from March 6 to March 31, prioritizes maternal and child health, adolescent girls, and the elderly. It also includes administrative improvements and field-level screenings for anemia. This phase will see the launch of the Self Help Group Women's Health Profile Programme, progressively extending to all mandals within six months.
Subsequent phases include early detection of non-communicable diseases like hypertension and cancer from April 1 to April 15, with screening camps at sub-centres. From April 16 to May 15, the focus shifts to infection control and public health preparedness, including intensified tuberculosis case identification and awareness campaigns on seasonal diseases. The final phase, May 16 to June 12, aims to expand healthcare services in urban areas by upgrading 145 Urban Primary Health Centres into polyclinics and deploying mobile medical camps in slum areas.
