Telangana Health Alert: Typhoid Up, Vigilance for ILI

In Telangana, a review of seasonal diseases amid the monsoon has revealed a slight increase in typhoid cases for the period of January 1 to August 27, 2026, compared to the same timeframe last year. This comes as cases of dengue, malaria, chikungunya, acute diarrhoeal disease, and dysentery have shown a decline.
Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha has directed officials to visit districts with rising case numbers to assess the situation and implement preventive measures. Government hospitals are instructed to be fully prepared for seasonal disease outbreaks and emergencies.
The Minister also emphasized increased monitoring for Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), citing concerns over rising cases in Delhi and Maharashtra. Daily ILI reports from both government and private facilities are to be submitted weekly. Officials confirmed that necessary testing reagents are available and the seasonal influenza situation remains under control.
Special attention will be given to villages, towns, schools, hostels, and construction sites. ASHA workers and ANMs are tasked with door-to-door campaigns to raise awareness on disease prevention and curbing mosquito breeding.
