A recent 'One Health' outreach in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district has highlighted a significant health concern: a high prevalence of anemia within the Koya and Gond tribal communities.
Organized by ICAR-NMRI and AIIMS-Bibinagar, the camp focused on preventive health, medical services, and zoonotic disease surveillance for vulnerable tribal groups. Despite efforts, deep-seated barriers including poverty, geographical isolation, and language differences continue to limit access to regular medical care for these remote populations.
Consultations covered maternal and child health, nutritional deficiencies, and chronic illnesses. The initiative also distributed hygiene kits and collected samples for integrated zoonotic disease surveillance, aiming to build early warning systems within tribal ecosystems.
