The Health University has reclassified maternity leave, ensuring it is distinct from unauthorized absences. This change allows immediate rejoining of duties post-maternity leave, with college principals instructed to facilitate prompt resumption of classes. The postgraduate course duration will be extended correspondingly to cover the leave period, ensuring all training requirements are met without penalty.
This policy shift, driven by protests from the Telangana Senior Resident Doctors Association (TSRDA) against what they termed a 'maternity penalty,' addresses concerns of female doctors facing career-versus-motherhood dilemmas.
