Summary
- 43 medical shops issued show-cause notices for violations.
- Weight-loss drugs Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus targeted.
- Inspections found sales without prescriptions and missing bills.

On Friday, August 14, 2026, the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) initiated a significant enforcement drive targeting medical shops. This operation focused on the sale of high-demand weight-loss medications, including those containing Tirzepatide and Semaglutide, such as Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. The drive aimed to identify and curb the sale of counterfeit versions and ensure proper dispensing practices.
During the inspections, 43 medical shops were found to be in violation of regulations. Common irregularities included selling prescription drugs without a specialist's prescription, failing to issue or maintain sales bills, and dispensing medications in the absence of a registered pharmacist. Issues with maintaining purchase bills were also noted.
Consequently, the Telangana DCA has issued show-cause notices to all 43 identified shops. These establishments now face further action under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The administration encourages the public to report suspected illegal sales or counterfeit weight-loss drugs via their toll-free number.
