Telangana Eyes 24/7 Eye Care Clinics Statewide
3 Jan
Summary
- New eye care clinics will offer 24/7 services across Telangana.
- Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to serve as central management hub.
- Previous Kanti Velugu program lacked surgical interventions.

The Telangana government is establishing comprehensive eye care clinics across the state to ensure continuous services, moving beyond temporary eye camps. These clinics are designed to operate round-the-clock, with the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Hyderabad serving as the central coordinating hub.
A nodal officer has been appointed to manage the coordination between the central hub and peripheral clinics, facilitating screening and surgical referrals. A high-level technical expert committee is also assessing the prevalence of eye diseases to recommend treatment protocols. Final decisions on the clinics' structure and operations await this committee's report.
This initiative follows the Kanti Velugu program, which, despite screening millions and identifying needs for surgeries, did not include surgical interventions. In parallel, the state has significantly scaled up services under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI), performing over 6.12 lakh cataract surgeries and screening numerous students in 2024-2025.
