Telangana Doubles Health Spend Goal by 2047

Telangana is strategically increasing its investment in healthcare, with a target to raise health expenditure from the current 4% to 8% of its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) by 2047. This ambitious goal is set to enhance productivity, drive economic growth, and build societal resilience, key factors in the state's aspiration to reach a $3 trillion economy by the same year. Improved health outcomes are seen as central to this economic vision.

The state is reinforcing its healthcare infrastructure through a robust three-tier system. This includes 5,023 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs offering essential services, 184 Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad hospitals acting as referral centers, and a growing network of 35 teaching hospitals and 13 specialty institutions. Major projects, such as the new Osmania General Hospital and expansions at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, are underway.

Furthermore, Telangana is solidifying its position as an international medical tourism hub, attracting over 100,000 medical tourists yearly. The state is committed to ensuring equitable healthcare for all, with targeted programs for women, children, adolescents, and senior citizens, and maintaining high rates of institutional deliveries and maternal/child health support.
