Telangana Fights Worms: Millions of Kids Get Deworming Tablets

On July 13, 2026, the Telangana government initiated the National Deworming Day (NDD) Programme. Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha officially launched the campaign at a school in Hyderabad, emphasizing the importance of deworming for children's health.
The program aims to distribute Albendazole tablets to nearly 97 lakh children and adolescents between one and 19 years old. This initiative is crucial for reducing the prevalence of anaemia and soil-transmitted helminth infections, which can impair physical growth and cognitive abilities.
To ensure maximum coverage, a Mop-Up Day has been scheduled for July 20, 2026. This day will be dedicated to administering the deworming tablets to any child who may have missed the initial campaign due to absence or illness.
Albendazole tablets will be administered through Anganwadi centres and educational institutions. The dosage is tailored to age groups, with younger children receiving a crushed tablet and older ones getting a chewable tablet, each containing 400 mg of the medication.
