Telangana Warns of Seasonal Flu Surge as Temperatures Plummet
12 Nov
Summary
- Telangana issues flu advisory as IMD forecasts temperature drop
- Certain groups at higher risk of severe illness from seasonal flu
- Precautions include covering coughs, frequent handwashing, staying home if sick

On November 12, 2025, the Telangana Health department issued an advisory warning citizens to take precautions against the impending seasonal flu outbreak. This comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that temperatures in the state could fall two to three degrees below normal over the next few days.
The health department cautioned that the drop in temperatures may lead to an increase in the spread of acute respiratory infections, including seasonal flu. Seasonal flu is described as a highly contagious respiratory illness marked by fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and fatigue. The advisory notes that the flu spreads easily through droplets released during coughing or sneezing.
While most individuals can recover at home within a week with adequate rest and fluid intake, the department highlighted that certain groups are more vulnerable to severe illness. These include pregnant women, children under five, adults over 65, and people with chronic medical conditions. Warning signs such as high fever, difficulty breathing, and altered behavior require immediate medical attention.

To reduce transmission, the advisory urges citizens to cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, wash hands frequently, avoid touching the face, maintain good indoor ventilation, stay hydrated, and eat nutritious food. Individuals with flu-like symptoms are advised to stay home and avoid crowded places.
