Teen's Pregnancy Test Sparks Outrage and Inquiry
12 Aug
Summary
- A 16-year-old girl was allegedly tested for pregnancy without consent.
- Doctors at a civic hospital declared the teen pregnant based on faulty tests.
- A subsequent test at a private facility yielded a negative pregnancy result.

An inquiry has been ordered into allegations that doctors at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Dombivli conducted a pregnancy test on a 16-year-old without consent. The Class 12 student was admitted on July 30 with complaints of low haemoglobin and heavy bleeding. The hospital's resident medical officer reportedly performed two strip tests and a sonography, subsequently informing the family the teenager was pregnant.
Family members claim a pregnancy test conducted at a private hospital later produced a negative result, prompting demands for action against the involved doctors. The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation's commissioner has initiated an investigation into the matter. A health official stated a urine pregnancy test showed a weakly positive result, which prompted further tests for confirmation.
