The mother of a 12-year-old girl who died by suicide has voiced her unforgiveness towards the mental health unit that cared for her daughter. The tragic incident occurred in January 2024 at Emerald Lodge, part of the Becton Centre and Sheffield Children's Hospital.
Following a nine-day inquest, a jury determined that inadequate testing at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham may have played a role in the girl's death. Blood tests later confirmed she suffered from autoimmune encephalitis, a rare condition causing brain inflammation and psychotic episodes.
Despite experiencing severe psychotic episodes, the critical tests for her condition were not performed. Her mother believes there was a failure to provide the necessary care, leading to her daughter's untimely death.
