In November, a Coppell basketball court became the scene of a life-saving event when 10-year-old Nasir "Nas" Brobby collapsed due to an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. Fortunately, his 13-year-old friend, Jace Giles, was present and immediately began CPR, recalling his training from safety classes.
Jace's mother, Charisse Deloria, arrived and took over, calling 911 and continuing chest compressions with determination. A dispatcher, Erin Rocha, guided Deloria through the process, while her supervisor, Rylee DeLaGarza, offered support. Medical professionals confirm that immediate CPR was crucial for Nas's survival.
Dr. Tia Raymond, a pediatric cardiac intensive care physician, stressed that Nas's life was saved due to early CPR and rapid emergency response. The city of Coppell is leveraging this incident to promote CPR training, emphasizing its importance through facilities like the Life Safety Park, which offers free classes.
Nas has since made a full recovery after surgery and is back to enjoying basketball. His mother, Teresa Tunia, expressed immense gratitude for everyone involved, acknowledging the emotional toll but celebrating her son's recovery. Jace remains a close friend, proud that Nas is alive and well.
