In Rowan County, a 13-year-old boy named Bryson Blanton experienced a life-threatening event during a youth baseball game last month. After making a diving catch and hitting a double, Bryson collapsed on the field, his heart having stopped.
He remained without a heartbeat and oxygen for approximately six to eight minutes until an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) arrived. Fortunately, an off-duty police officer and a firefighter were present and performed CPR until emergency services arrived.
At the hospital, doctors identified a previously undetected heart condition. Bryson spent several weeks hospitalized and his family prayed for a miracle, given the prolonged period without oxygen.
Miraculously, Bryson awoke with no permanent brain damage and is expected to recover. He now has a device implanted to monitor his heart and deliver a shock if necessary, ensuring his safety should a similar event occur.
