Basketball Player's Life Saved on Court

In a remarkable display of preparedness and teamwork, the life of 17-year-old Francesco Allocca was saved on the basketball court at Locust Valley High School. During tryouts on November 17, Allocca went into cardiac arrest, his heart stopping and breathing ceasing unexpectedly. Coaches and teachers immediately sprang into action, performing CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) to revive him.

The swift response by the school staff, followed by rapid transport to Glen Cove Hospital and then Cohen Children's Medical Center, proved critical. Doctors and paramedics worked to stabilize Allocca, who has since made a stunning recovery. The incident highlights the importance of readily available life-saving equipment and trained personnel in schools.

Allocca, along with his family, has expressed profound gratitude to everyone involved in his rescue. His mother noted the special significance of the holiday season following recent personal loss. Doctors are optimistic about Allocca's recovery, hoping he can rejoin his team on the court this season, marking a true testament to community and emergency medical response.
