The state achieved an unprecedented 268 deceased donors in 2024, with 240 recorded this year alone. This success stems from a meticulously crafted and transparent organ donation program, which addresses medical, ethical, and emotional complexities.
The state's achievements are bolstered by a transparent organ allocation policy and collaborative efforts from various sectors, fostering public trust. To further honor those who give the gift of life, Tamil Nadu introduced state honors for deceased donors in September 2023, with 573 accorded to date.
TRANSTAN actively works to enhance the organ donation system by encouraging medical personnel and conducting regular re-orientation programs. Initiatives like the 'Wall of Honour' in government medical college hospitals and a students' charter for organ donation in 11 medical colleges aim to deepen engagement and perpetuate this life-saving mission.
