Health Minister Claims Zero Vacancies, Nurses Disagree
28 Nov
Summary
- Minister claims zero vacancies in the health department.
- Nurses association disputes claim, citing 1,500 nursing vacancies.
- Government redeploys staff to new hospitals instead of creating posts.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian stated on November 28, 2025, that the Health Department has no vacant positions, emphasizing a new era of zero vacancies. He highlighted recent recruitments of doctors and Village Health Nurses and assured that steps are being taken to fill any potential vacancies arising by 2026.
Contradicting the minister's claim, the Tamil Nadu Nurses Empowerment Association reported that around 1,500 nursing posts, intended for recruitment through the Medical Services Recruitment Board, and numerous contract positions are still vacant. The association argued that the current staffing levels are insufficient according to National Medical Commission guidelines.
The nurses' group expressed concern that new and upgraded facilities are being operated by redeploying staff from other hospitals, instead of creating new posts. This perceived understaffing, especially in critical care, leads to delays in treatment and affects the quality of care provided to patients.
