Tamil Nadu has launched dual initiatives to bolster its public healthcare system. The Nalam TN portal, introduced on Tuesday, aims to attract private philanthropy for government hospitals by establishing a state-level pooled fund. This fund is designated for common infrastructure, disease programs, high-cost surgeries, and emergency situations, complementing existing government financing.
Parallel to this, the Nalam AI service was rolled out, utilizing WhatsApp for patients to generate outpatient tickets and book appointments. This digital platform also facilitates the digital delivery of prescriptions and laboratory reports, significantly simplifying patient interaction with public health facilities across 22 districts. This technological integration seeks to digitize the initial patient contact point within hospitals.
These advancements coincide with a broader expansion of public health infrastructure, including the inauguration of new buildings and medical equipment worth Rs 139.47 crore. The state also appointed 751 Assistant Medical Officers and 1,393 Grade II Health Inspectors, enhancing both its healthcare facilities and workforce.
