The state health department is set to create 2,500 new nursing posts in its first phase of expansion. This initiative directly addresses a persistent demand from government doctors and nurses, with their associations expressing approval.
Health Minister K.G. Arunraj announced in the Assembly that these new permanent positions are primarily for nurses recruited via the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB), many of whom have been working on consolidated pay for up to nine years without permanent status.
Beyond nursing roles, the announcement also includes 284 super speciality posts and 3,594 positions for pharmacists, nursing assistants, and village health nurses. The Service Doctors and Post Graduates Association (SDPGA) commended the government for investing in human resources and upgrading rural medical facilities.
This move is seen as a crucial step in strengthening the state's healthcare workforce, aligning with demands for increased manpower across various medical cadres and improved services in districts.
