Tamil Nadu Dengue Cases Hit 3-Year Low

Tamil Nadu has experienced a notable decrease in dengue cases for the third consecutive year. Up to September 19, 2026, the state recorded 17,049 cases, a considerable drop from the 25,585 cases in 2025, 46,971 in 2024, and 56,863 in 2023.

This sustained decline saw reported cases fall by 17% between 2023 and 2024, followed by a significant 46% reduction in 2025. As of September 19, 2026, nine dengue-related deaths were reported, compared to 12 in 2025, 13 in 2024, and 12 in 2023. While the 2026 figures up to September 19 show a continuing downward trend, the full-year numbers may change.

Continued surveillance and control measures targeting the Aedes mosquito, the primary vector for dengue, remain crucial for prevention. Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection, can cause severe illness, with warning signs like persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, and extreme weakness necessitating prompt medical attention.
