MP Demands Broader Review of Sussex Hospital Trust Abuse
4 Sep
Summary
- MP calls for trust-wide review of bullying and discrimination claims.
- An initial probe found a significant proportion of staff faced abuse.
- Women and ethnic minority staff reported experiencing the most harm.

A call has been made to expand an investigation into bullying, harassment, and discrimination claims at a Sussex hospital trust to encompass the entire organization. Eastbourne MP Josh Babarinde has urged the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (ESHT) to broaden its current review, which initially focused on the general surgery department.
This expansion is prompted by an increasing number of serving and former staff members contacting the MP's office with similar concerns. The trust's ongoing review, commissioned in January, previously found that a significant proportion of general surgery staff reported experiencing workplace abuse within the last year.
Findings from the initial review indicated that women, non-consultant medical staff, and ethnic minority employees were among those most affected by the negative environment. The trust has stated that it has already implemented measures, including dedicated support for staff within the affected team.
