- Therapy was crucial for addressing underlying emotional struggles post-surgery.

Susan McGinnis, now 28, experienced severe childhood obesity, reaching 14 stone by age nine and a peak of 28 stone by 21. She attributes her struggles to absent parenting and carelessness, noting that her weight significantly impacted her childhood and teenage years, limiting experiences and causing deep self-consciousness.
Susan's weight issues began with comfort eating and secret snacking, leading to a reliance on food for solace. After failed diets, she underwent gastric sleeve surgery in 2019 and a subsequent gastric bypass in 2021. While these procedures led to significant weight loss, she realized that therapy was essential to address binge eating disorder and atypical anorexia.
Two years of consistent psychotherapy in 2026 helped Susan confront underlying issues previously masked by her weight. After giving birth in June 2024, she regained weight but successfully lost it again using the weight loss jab, Wegovy, reaching a healthy size 12. She now focuses on balance, listening to her body's needs, and views weight loss as a symptom rather than a sole goal.
