Nicole Grigorov, 53, underwent a 'mummy makeover' cosmetic surgery in October 2025, seeking to address insecurities after weight loss. The procedure resulted in a severe infection, leading to septic shock, multi-organ failure, and an induced coma. While in this critical state, Grigorov experienced an out-of-body sensation, observing doctors working to save her life.
Upon waking, she was devastated to discover that her hands and feet had turned black and required amputation. The surgery led to the loss of all her fingers and toes. Recovery was arduous, necessitating extensive rehabilitation to regain basic functions like walking and feeding herself.
This near-fatal surgical complication was not Grigorov's first brush with death. Her life has been marked by seven such incidents, beginning with a survival of an attempted abortion in 1973. Other life-threatening events include a near-drowning at the age of two, a severe anaphylactic shock from a wasp nest sting at age four, a severe hand injury from broken glass, and being thrown from a horse in December 2012.
Despite her extraordinary run of misfortune, Grigorov refuses to see herself as a victim. She emphasizes her determination to remain positive and has since opened a second-hand clothes store. Grigorov views her multiple chances at life as a reason for gratitude, expressing certainty that her best days are yet to come.
