Dr. Gerald Gui, a consultant breast surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital, is celebrating 40 years of his career. He was deeply honored when a former patient, artist Ruth Swain, created a portrait of him.
Swain, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, described Dr. Gui as "wonderful" and "very encouraging" during her treatment. Following successful surgery, she has remained cancer-free for almost 15 years.
As a testament to her gratitude, Swain donated her portrait of Dr. Gui to the hospital. The artwork now hangs prominently on the main staircase.
Dr. Gui is also marking 40 years with the NHS in 2026. He actively participates in fundraising for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, with colleagues recently raising over £9,000 in one event.
