Deaf Community Gains New Support for Health and Well-being

Zebra Access has secured funding to continue its support for deaf communities for the next two years, providing much-needed health-related activities. These initiatives are specifically designed for individuals who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing within the Black Country.
The project will offer a range of engaging activities, including Get Deaf Active sessions conducted in British Sign Language (BSL). These will feature fitness classes like tai chi, pilates, zumba, aerobics, and yoga, with chair exercises available for those with limited mobility.
Furthermore, workshops will cover important health topics such as cervical screenings and menopause. Condition management for common health issues like diabetes and dementia will also be addressed, alongside training to help prevent scams. Arts, crafts, community events, and day trips are planned to combat isolation and support mental well-being.
