The Supernova Stent, a new advanced brain treatment device, has been confirmed as safe and effective for stroke patients by experts at AIIMS Delhi. AIIMS served as the national coordinating center for the GRASSROOT trial, a groundbreaking clinical study.
Preliminary results from the trial, published in the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, indicate excellent safety and efficacy. The Supernova stent retriever achieved high rates of successful blood flow restoration, with a low incidence of brain bleeds (3.1%), mortality (9.4%), and a 50% functional independence rate at 90 days.
Developed by Gravity Medical Technology, the Supernova stent is designed for India's diverse population and has already received approval for routine use. The trial's success is a milestone for the Make-in-India initiative, positioning India as a leader in advanced stroke care and offering affordable treatment options to millions.
