Summit County Public Health conducted comprehensive inspections of hundreds of food-serving establishments during February. These facilities, ranging from restaurants to grocery stores, were evaluated for compliance with the Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code, which mandates safe food handling practices.
Beau's Market & Deli in Akron recorded the highest number of critical violations, with inspectors noting 10 issues including improper cold holding temperatures and sanitation lapses. Several other businesses, such as Fisher's Cafe & Pub and Sons of Herman Friendship, also faced multiple critical violations related to food contact surfaces, temperature control, and sourcing.
Critical violations are defined as those with a higher likelihood of contributing to foodborne illness. Non-critical violations, while not directly linked to illness, address facility maintenance and cleanliness. Various inspection types, including standard, follow-up, and complaint-based, are employed to ensure ongoing compliance.
