13 Jun
Summary
- Héma-Québec urges donations during summer vacation season.
- Blood and plasma needs continue year-round for patients.
- Outreach campaign spans festivals, sporting events, and runs.
During National Blood Donor Week, Héma-Québec has initiated a provincewide summer outreach campaign to bolster blood and plasma donations. The organization stresses the ongoing necessity for these donations, even during the vacation season when routines shift. Marc-Antoine Turcotte, a spokesperson, highlighted that patient needs for blood are consistent year-round due to ongoing medical treatments and emergencies.
The campaign aims to raise awareness by attending numerous summer events across Quebec, including festivals like the MURAL Festival in Montreal, dragon boat races in Jonquière and Shawinigan, and events promoting sickle cell disease awareness. A unique challenge involves a team running 900 kilometers from Drummondville to Gaspé between June 19 and 21, targeting 900 plasma donations. Information booths will be present at various gatherings, and volunteers will support activities. While donations cannot be made at these events, staff will be available to book appointments.
