Sturdee Hospital Faces Scrutiny Over Bullying Claims
7 Mar
Summary
- Hospital staff reported a 'bullying culture' and feared harassment.
- Inspectors found patients were not always protected from harm.
- The facility received a 'requires improvement' rating overall.

Sturdee Community Hospital in Leicester has been mandated to make improvements by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the nation's health watchdog.
During an inspection in June 2025, the CQC identified significant issues in the safety and leadership of the service. Inspectors reported that patients were not consistently safeguarded from harm and that some staff felt their concerns were not heard, fearing bullying if they spoke up.
Consequently, the hospital received an overall rating of 'requires improvement'. This marks a decline from its previous 'good' rating. The CQC's report, published on February 26, 2026, highlighted ongoing concerns about harassment and bullying among staff teams.
Despite these findings, some staff members indicated that morale and patient care had improved under the new management. In response to the CQC's feedback, the hospital's owner, InMind Healthcare Limited, stated they have made considerable progress since the inspection.
This progress includes strengthening governance, enhancing staff training, and improving clinical oversight. The company is collaborating with the CQC and local health bodies to embed these changes and aims to achieve an outstanding standard of care.
