Hostel Water Contamination Sickens 26 Students
15 Mar
Summary
- Twenty-six students reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea.
- Contaminated drinking water is suspected as the cause.
- The hostel warden was placed on forced leave pending inquiry.

In a recent incident, approximately 26 students residing in a hostel developed symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea. They were subsequently transported to New Bhosari Hospital for medical attention. Of these, nine students were admitted overnight, with one additional student admitted on the following morning.
Medical authorities indicated that the symptoms are consistent with acute gastroenteritis, likely stemming from contaminated food or water. Preliminary investigations suggest a potential contamination of drinking water, possibly due to the mixing of borewell water with the stored supply during a period of shortage. The PCMC health department has collected water samples for laboratory analysis.
In response to the incident, the hostel warden has been placed on forced leave pending a further inquiry into the matter. Officials confirmed that most affected students received treatment and were discharged, while those admitted are reported to be in stable condition.
